Reblogged from Undead Infinity:
Japan..Japan..you did it again.
Once again my breath was taken away by an invention of the japanese universal mind. Have you ever tasted square watermelons? I surely didn't and I will probably never have one. They cost around 10.000 yen [$82] so that's way too expensive even for a Japanese worker.
But the idea is not hat bad - just plain weird.
Who would have thought of it? Japan!

Oh my goodness, those are expensive watermelons! They sure do look … different … lol.
When I first saw them, I thought it was trick photography. Wonder why square is better?
They look great
They do, Aditix! I think I understand about the square shape now, They fit better on the shelf of the pantry that way! Makes sense.
The Japanese had elevated food to art in innumerable ways long, *long* before there was such a thing as Nouvelle Cuisine or molecular gastronomy! This is just another example of the infinite capacity for mixing art, play and science that the Japanese tapped into so very long ago.
Thank you so much for the additional information. Kathryn. The Japanese culture fascinates me in so many ways.
